With her experience and versatility in the performance of multiple vocal genres, Deborah Rogers has become a sought after stage and concert presence nationally and internationally.
Originally from Brisbane, Deborah graduated with Honours in Music from the University of Southern Queensland in 2005, as a recipient of the Special Achievement in Music Award. Since then, she has completed an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts, a Graduate Diploma in Music (Performance) at the WA Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) and is currently completing a Masters in Music (Performance). In 2009, Deborah performed as one of six national finalists in the Opera Foundation Lady Fairfax New York Scholarship and in 2011, was a recipient of the Australian Voice Association’s Student Encouragement Award for her commitment and passion to vocal study, teaching and performance.
Her role credits include Elizabeth Proctor in the Australian Premiere of Robert Ward’s Pulitzer Prize winning Opera, “The Crucible” (2008: WAAPA), Madame de Croissy in “Dialogues of the Carmelites” (2009: WAAPA), Kitty Vaughan in “The Last Maharajah” (2010: Eastman Group) and Sister Chantelle in “Bare: A Pop Opera” (2009: for the Perth Pride Festival). She has performed as a member of the West Australian Opera Chorus in Peter Grimes (2010), Carmen(2010),The Mikado(2010), Cavelleria Rusticana(2010) and I Pagliacci (2010). In 2011, Deborah took up a two year Young Artist Residency with Opera Queensland making her role and company debut as Flora in “La Traviata” for the Brisbane Festival’s, Opera at the Racecourse and her mainstage debut as Peep Bo in “The Mikado”. Her engagements with the company have included mainstage appearances as Tisbe in Rossini’s “Cinderella” and acting the role of Monterone’s Daughter in “Rigoletto” (Verdi). She has also understudied the roles of Dorabella in “Cosi fan Tutte”, Mercedes in“Carmen” and Giovanna/Maddelena in “Rigoletto”.
On the concert platform, Deborah has appeared as a support artist to Michael Buble (2008 Australian Concerts), soloist in “Music Around the World” with the Queensland Pops Orchestra (New Years Eve 2011), soloist at “Opera in the Vineyard” (2011) and “Sunset Opera”(2011/2012) and is a current member of The 7 Sopranos.
In 2013, Deborah relocated to Sydney where she performed in Opera Australia’s Handa Opera on the Sydney Harbour, “Carmen”. Deborah also made her recording debut with ABC and Universal Music on The 7 Sopranos debut album.
In 2014-2015, Deborah travelled to New York, USA to teach, coach and mentor up-and-coming performing artists as the Frenchwoods Festival of Performing Arts, a three month program held in upstate New York. In October, Deborah graced the stage once more with The 7 Sopranos in their Australian Tour. Deborah was also featured with The 7 Sopranos on the cruise liner The Radiance of the Seas on the Bravo Performing Arts Cruise with acclaimed performers including Elaine Paige, Marina Prior and Teddy Tahu Rhodes. She also appeared as a guest soloist for a variety of Fundraising Events including The Mater Hospital Ball and "Zoe's Angels" Masquerade Ball in October 2015.
In 2016, Deborah continued her touring schedule with The 7 Sopranos and celebrated the release of the second of The 7 Soprano album releases with “Popcorn: Songs from Stage and Screen” and the debut of the new show of the same name earlier this year, as the character of “Barb Rogers”. Later this year, Deborah will make her New Zealand debut with the group as part of the "Brava Tour".
